Suggested Response:

• On November 30, 2024, in partnership with the Manitoba Métis Federation, the Government of Canada reached the historic milestone of signing the Red River Métis Self-Government Recognition and Implementation Treaty.
• This is the first self-government Treaty signed with the Métis.
• The Treaty recognizes the Manitoba Métis Federation as an Indigenous government with jurisdiction over core governance matters such as citizenship, elections, and internal affairs.

• The Government of Manitoba will be invited to participate if negotiations involve areas under provincial jurisdiction. • The Government of Canada will undertake meaningful consultations with Indigenous groups whose rights may be impacted. If pressed on Implementation Legislation
• Implementation legislation is required to give legal force and effect to the Treaty and will be introduced in Parliament as soon as possible.
• The Treaty will come into force upon Royal Assent.
