• On June 24, 2025, the Federal Court of Canada approved the settlement agreement as fair, reasonable, and in the best interests of the Class Members.
• The Government of Canada has agreed to provide individual compensation to those admitted to one of 33 Federal Indian Hospitals between 1936 and 1981 who suffered verbal, psychological, physical, or sexual abuse.
• The Government of Canada also agreed to provide $385 million to support healing, wellness, truth, reconciliation, cultures, protection of languages, commemoration, and research and education for class members and their families.

If Pressed On Next Steps
• The parties will work collaboratively to ensure the claims process moves forward in an efficient and timely manner.
• The claims process will open on January 27, 2026 and class members will have until July 27, 2028 to submit a claim for compensation.
• An Estate Representative or Heir may submit a Claim for a Primary Class Member who passed away on or after January 25, 2016. If pressed on Health Supports
• Any process that involves revisiting past abuse can be very difficult for survivors.
• The Settlement provides for a $150,000,000 funding increase to extend existing Indigenous Services Canada mental health and wellness supports of class members and their families.
