• We are deeply concerned about the events in Winnipeg, and the recent announcements of the murdered Indigenous women from Manitoba.
• We would like to express our sincere condolences to the families and communities for the losses of Rebecca Contois, Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran, and a fourth woman.
• All of Canada needs to do better – for the survivors, families and communities living with the consequences of this national tragedy.
• Everyone has the right to be safe in their communities, and wherever they live in Canada.

Federal Investments in Manitoba
• We are committed to living up to our commitments as a country, and addressing this national tragedy of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit+ People.
• Federal investments focused on Manitoba include shelters, cultural spaces, data collection, healing initiatives for families, survivors and communities, capacity building for Indigenous women and two-spirit + organizations, as well as health and wellness.
• Funds aimed at addressing the root causes of violence against Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people have been included in the last two federal budgets.
Manitoba MMIWG Overview
• The province signed the joint statement of provinces and territories in June 2021 supporting the National Action Plan.
• The Manitoba Government has recently amended their Path to Reconciliation Act to establish the Calls for Justice as a central and guiding aspect of the government’s approach to advancing truth and reconciliation in Manitoba.
• The Province is supporting an Indigenous-led partnership table coordinated by the Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre to co-develop a provincial implementation plan as related to the Calls for Justice of the National Inquiry.
Engagement with Manitoba
• Since before 2018, CIRNAC has been engaging with both Indigenous organizations and the Provincial Government in Manitoba on addressing the root causes of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people.
• Recent engagement has focused on aligning work with the 2021 Nation Action Plan as well as cross-jurisdictional efforts.
• Manitoba is also collaborating on the upcoming national Roundtable with Indigenous Leadership and Representatives and Federal-Provincial-Territorial Governments.
