• As a result of the dissolution of Parliament on March 23, 2025, Departments were provided Governor General Special Warrants to ensure Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada could continue to support its work with Indigenous partners.

• Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada received $8.9 billion through the Governor General Special Warrants to support ongoing operations.

• Of this amount, $400 million is for programs under Northern Affairs.

• The Governor General Special Warrants for Northern Affairs were composed of $262.5 million in operating expenditures and $132.7 million in transfer payments.
• The majority of the operating funding was required for the remediation of Northern Contaminated Sites, to address the significant risks they pose to the environment and to human health and safety.
• Resources were also needed to support accessibility to nutritious food in isolated northern communities through the Nutrition North Program.
• These funds are important to address the unique needs of Northerners and advance the work to create more economic opportunities and a higher quality of life in Canada’s North.
