Suggested Response:
• The Government of Canada, the Government of Nunavut, and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated signed the Nunavut Lands and Resources Devolution Agreement on January 18, 2024.
• Implementing the Devolution Agreement will solidify the foundation of effective governance in Canada, and will provide Nunavummiut greater local control and accountability for decisions related to lands and resources management.
• The Parties agreed to a three-year period to implement the devolution agreement and the plans are on track. We are committed to working with our partners to advance a seamless transition of responsibilities on the transfer date set for April 1, 2027.

• Nunavut is the last jurisdiction in the Canada remaining without responsibilities for public lands and resources.
• The Parties are currently in a three-year implementation phase, which will include legislative amendments so that the authorities and self-determination of lands and resources fall under the purview of the Government of Nunavut.
• Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated is a signatory to the Devolution Agreement and committed to implementing devolution to advance self-determination and reconciliation
• Consultations with other Indigenous partners with rights within Nunavut, will continue throughout the three-year implementation phase.
