• CIRNAC’s Departmental Plan for 2025–26 demonstrates continued support of the Government of Canada’s commitment to advance reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

• The department will continue to address the ongoing challenges facing the North by increasing Indigenous-led solutions in food security, housing and infrastructure development, and climate change adaptation.

If pressed on food security
• With advice from the Ministerial Special Representative, we will look to transform existing programs by building on community-led approaches like support to harvesters.
• In 2025–26, Nutrition North Canada will also continue working with small local retailers, food banks, local food producers and non-profit organizations to be onboarded onto the retail subsidy. If pressed on other northern issues
• The Department will continue discussions with territorial, provincial and Indigenous partners to define additional regional governance approaches for the Arctic and Northern Policy Framework.
• We will advance innovative solutions that respond to critical housing needs in the North and Arctic and support Northerners through investments in post-secondary education.
• The Department will continue to manage over 150 northern contaminated sites as well as support northern and Indigenous communities in their transition from diesel to clean energy.
• We will advance the implementation phase of the Nunavut Devolution Final Agreement until it is completed in 2027.
