Suggested Response:
• The Government of Canada, the Government of Nunavut, and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated signed the Nunavut Lands and Resources Devolution Agreement on January 18, 2024.
• This is a historic agreement that will provide the residents of Nunavut or Nunavummiut greater local control and accountability for decisions related to their lands and resources.
• The Parties agreed to a three-year period to implement the devolution agreement and the plans are on track. A seamless transition of responsibilities is planned for April 1, 2027.

• Nunavut is the last jurisdiction in Canada remaining without responsibilities for public lands and resources.
• The three-year implementation phase includes legislative amendments so that the Government of Nunavut can make decisions on lands and resources. If pressed on reconciliation
• Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated is a signatory to the Devolution Agreement.
• Consultations with other Indigenous partners with rights within Nunavut, will continue throughout the three-year implementation phase.
