2025–2026 Main Estimates Funding to Support Northern Development

Suggested Response:

• In 2025–2026, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency is receiving over $77.8 million through the Main Estimates.
• This funding enables continued investments in infrastructure, Indigenous economic development, and community resilience across the territories.

Background:

• CanNor’s 2025–2026 Main Estimates include $51.4 million in grants and contributions, $23.9 million in operating funds, and $2.5 million in statutory funding, supporting strategic investments in territorial economic development.

Funding allocations include:
o $28.2 million for promoting regional development in Canada’s three territories
o $13.2 million for the Northern Indigenous Economic Opportunities Program (NIEOP)
o $7.5 million for the Inclusive Diversification and Economic Advancement in the North (IDEANorth) initiative
o Over $2 million for infrastructure and business development via the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program
