CanNor Accomplishments & Recent Investments Supporting the North
Suggested Response:
• Between April 2024 and March 2025, CanNor invested $55 million across 263 projects fostering short and long-term economic development and sector diversification.
• Of these, $30 million was provided through CanNor’s flagship IDEANorth program, supporting capacity and skills development and economic infrastructure.
• This fiscal year, CanNor has already allocated another $25 million in funding across 185 projects.
Background:
Territorial Examples
Yukon
• In the 2024/25 Fiscal Year, CanNor provided over $16 million across over 112 projects in the Yukon.
• Of the projects supported in the Yukon, over $8 million was allocated to 46 projects led or majority led by Indigenous recipients.
• For example, CanNor supported the Carcross/Tagish First Nation with $495,000 over two years to upgrade existing and add new infrastructure and the Carcross Common to support visitor services, retail space and space for future cultural programming.
Northwest Territories
• CanNor allocated over $16 million across over 83 projects in the Northwest Territories.
• Of the projects supported in the Northwest Territories, over $8 million was allocated to 39 projects led or majority led by Indigenous recipients.
• CanNor supported Tlicho Investment Corporation with $600,000 over two years to construct a new grocery store in Wekweeti, NWT. This store replaced the fly-in community’s only store which increase employment and food security in the community.
Nunavut
• In Nunavut, CanNor provided nearly $22 million across more than 68 projects in 2024/25.
• Of the projects supported in Nunavut, over $20 million was allocated to 46 projects led or majority led by Indigenous recipients.
• CanNor supported the Taqqut Co-operative Ltd. in Arctic Bay with $250,000 over one year to complete the preconstruction phase of it’s new retail store. This new store will replace the community’s small and only current store, resulting in increased service offering and creating several jobs.

o major infrastructure projects;
o sustainable development of the mining and energy sectors; and
o economic diversification and innovation.
