Issue/Question:

CANNOR – Budget 2025

Suggested Response:

• The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of strengthening northern economies through faster project approvals, transformative infrastructure investments, and meaningful Indigenous participation in economic growth.
• CanNor is actively advancing Budget 2025 commitments, with $41.7 million allocated over four years to accelerate regulatory processes and consultations across the territories, ensuring Indigenous and local voices are central to decision-making.
• In collaboration with Transport Canada and Indigenous partners, CanNor will support delivery of the proposed $1 billion Arctic Infrastructure Fund to build, which will build dual-use transportation assets that enhance sovereignty, create jobs, and open new trade corridors for northern communities.

Background:

o For 2025-26, CanNor’s total authorities are $105.5 million, including $26.7 million in Supplementary Estimates (B). These investments fund key initiatives such as the Defence Industrial Strategy Early Moves, the Yukon Gathering Place, and the Northern Projects Management Office.
o Budget 2025 requests Regional Development Agencies to integrate AI and digital tools to increase efficiency, improve client service, and advance Indigenous economic reconciliation. This approach supports sustainable job creation and Canada’s long-term northern prosperity goals.
