CanNor Accomplishments & Recent Investments Supporting the North
Suggested Response:
• Between April 2022 and March 2023, CanNor allocated over $50 million to over 150 projects that foster short and long-term economic development and job creation. These projects are expected to create over 575 jobs and maintain another 375 jobs.
• Of these, over $36.5M was allocated to almost 70 projects led or majority led by Indigenous recipients. These projects are expected to create over 260 jobs and maintain another 186 jobs.
• CanNor also reinstated core economic development funding to Indigenous communities. In 2022-2023, CanNor allocated $6.7M to 29 Indigenous rights holder organizations. This money will bolster the capacity of northern Indigenous communities to pursue economic development. This funding can be used to hire local economic development officers.

• a skilled northern workforce;
• major infrastructure projects;
• sustainable development of the mining and energy sectors; and
• economic diversification and innovation.

YUKON
• CanNor has committed over $20.5 million across 70 projects in the Yukon.
• Of the projects supported in the Yukon, over $7.7M was allocated almost 25 projects led or majority led by Indigenous recipients.
• CanNor partnered with Kaska Dena Designs to support the company’s participation in Rise New York Fashion, a prestigious fashion show featuring emerging and independent designers. Through this high-visibility event, the company was able to gain international exposure and expand its business.
NORTHWEST TERRITORIES
• CanNor has allocated over $18.5 million across more than 50 projects in the Northwest Territories.
• Of the projects supported in the Northwest Territories, over $7.2M was allocated to almost 20 projects led or majority led by Indigenous recipients.
• Building on previous successes, CanNor supported the expansion of Makerspaces in the Northwest Territories. This will provide opportunities for partnerships, collaboration, and capacity building.
NUNAVUT
• CanNor has committed nearly $11.2 million across almost 30 projects in Nunavut.
• Of the projects supported in Nunavut, over $7.5M was allocated to 21 projects led or majority led by Indigenous recipients.
• CanNor invested in Pinnguaq Association to provide digital training programs for Inuit communities in Nunavut. These programs will foster digital skills and mentorship, equipping Inuit to capitalize on job opportunities in the Information and Communications Technology sector.
