A fire broke out on March 5 in Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. UN and NGO partners are undergoin a damage and needs assessment. This is the first large outbreak of this fire season.

• I was devastated to learn of the fire that took place on March 5 in one of the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazaar Bangladesh. Thousands of shelters have been destroyed, and many important facilities including hospitals and learning centres have been damaged.

Background:

On March 5, a large fire broke out in Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. While no casualties have been reported yet, over 2,100 shelters were destroyed or damaged, leaving some 16,000 refugees displaced, and 22 people missing. Over 90 facilities were damaged, including hospitals, learning centres, and safe spaces for women and girls. A damage and needs assessment is underway by UN and NGO partners. This is the first large outbreak of this year's fire season.
