Changes in Newfoundland and Labrador's crab exports, specifically to Japan, following Russia's Invasion of Ukraine.

Suggested Response:

• Prior to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Newfoundland and Labrador exported $887M in crab products to the world, with $11M (or 1.2%) destined for Japan in 2021. In 2021, Japan was Newfoundland's fourth largest export market for crab products.

Background:

Japan is an important market for Newfoundland and Labrador crab exports, representing the fifth largest export market in 2022 for crab products (following the US, China, Indonesia, and Vietnam). Japan also represents an important market for Canada overall, representing the 5th largest export market for crab products (down from 3rd place in 2021).
