Issue/Question:
From 24-28 May, World Food Programme (WFP) warehouses in El Obeid and Garsila, Sudan, were attacked and looted by armed individuals, with total losses to WFP now estimated to to be over USD 60 million
Suggested Response:
• We strongly condemn the targeting of humanitarian food and assets for looting and are deeply concerned for the safety of WFP's staff and all those who rely on this lifesaving assistance.
Background:
From 24‑28 May, on three separate occasions, a new World Food Programme (WFP) warehousing site on El Obeid, Sudan, was attacked by armed individuals, stealing three light vehicles, 12 prefabs, 5,500l of fuel in a tanker, spare parts and office equipment.
