Issue/Question:
On June 3-4, 2023, heavy rains, strong winds, floods and landslides affected Haiti. According to OCHA, nearly 37,400 people have been affected, 40 people have died and 19,300 have been displaced.
Suggested Response:
• Canada is deeply saddened by the loss of life and extensive damage to property and infrastructure, affecting thousands of Haitians.
Background:
Haiti is a context with longstanding humanitarian needs. The overlapping security and political crises are impacting economic activity and exacerbating humanitarian needs. Armed gang activity hinders access to key parts of the country, limiting the flow of fuel, food and medicine. The country is also prone to natural hazards.
