Issue/Question:

There is concern that the Taliban may announce additional restrictions relating to the education sector in Afghanistan very soon.

Suggested Response:

• Canada's commitment to the Afghan people has not waivered. We'll continue to support them. Access to education is a human right to which every child is entitled; Canada urges the de‑facto Taliban authorities to place the best interests of Afghanistan's children before all else

Background:

There's concern that the Taliban is likely to announce additional restrictions relating to the education sector in Afghanistan soon, including international NGOs being required to transfer their activities to national NGOs and/or local education authorities. This latest edict would impact international NGOs' ability to deliver Community‑Based Education activities for boys and girls, which Canada supports.
