Question Period Note: Colombian Peace Accord

Canada's compliance with the terms of the 2016 Peace Accord, and protecting Indigenous and Afro-Colombian populations.

• Canada is fully supportive of the 2016 Peace Accord, including its ethnic chapter. Canada is also dealing with a complicated past with its indigenous populations. That is why we recognize the importance of the whole of society understanding and participating in reconciliation.
• Canada is committed to continuing to support Indigenous and Afro-Colombian populations in their quest for peace and improved living conditions. We recognize that full implementation of the Peace Accord is the way forward.
• We are very concerned about violence, which has been increasing in recent years, especially against social and community leaders.

• We understand that Indigenous and Afro-Colombian populations, especially women, represent a disproportionate rate of victims of the conflict, but also of poverty and inequality.
