Suggested Response:

• In 2020-21, Canada provided $1.23 billion in international assistance funding to Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
• Canada is a partner of choice to promote key values and interests, including democracy, human rights and inclusive trade. We also have a large diaspora that strengthens our strong bilateral relations.
• The LAC region is diverse. It encompasses the full gamut of development issues and challenges. It offers many opportunities for Canada to work with likeminded partners to advance our shared priorities in the hemisphere, including on democracy and climate change.
• Overall, relations between Canada and the countries of the region are strong and continuing to develop. Canada has a considerable footprint in the region. We have 28 offices in Central America, the Caribbean, and South America, of which 22 are full embassies.

• Overall, there remains significant appetite in the region for enhanced Canadian engagement as a trusted development partner. We have a strong track record of leadership on key issues such as democracy, governance, gender equality, and public financial management.
