Issue/Question:

Following the removal of Pakistani PM Khan, he called for protests against the government and new elections to be held in June.

Suggested Response:

• Global Affairs Canada continues to closely follow events in Pakistan.
• Canada is working with Pakistan's new government to reinforce our long-standing relationship and strengthen our people-to-people ties.
• On this, the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Canada looks forward to building on this foundation to further strengthen and celebrate this relationship.
• Over the course of the past year, there has been significant high-level engagement between our two countries, including a series of calls between Foreign Ministers and an in-person visit of Canada's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs to Pakistan last November.
• Canada is grateful for Pakistan's support with the Afghanistan Safe Passage initiative.
