Question Period Note: 2022 Philippine Presidential election results

Ferdinand Marcos Jr., son of former President Marcos, is leading in the unofficial results in Monday's presidential election.

• Canada commends the Filipino people on these recent elections, which saw nearly 67 million people register to exercise their democratic franchise. Initial reports suggest a very high turn out, at over 80%.
• The commitment of Filipinos, including millions of young first-time voters, to the democratic process is remarkable.
• We further commend the Philippine Commission on Elections (COMELEC) for their organization and delivery of these elections amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, and in the wake of Super-Typhoon Odette and Tropical Storm Agaton.
