Background:
On June 21, the representative of the African Union in Sudan suspended its participation from 'certain activities' related to the intra-Sudanese talks being facilitated by the UN, the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development to find a way out of the current crisis . Mohamed Belaish, claimed that the talks lack transparency, honesty and inclusion, specifically referring to the fact the he was not invited to the talks held recently between the opposition forces and military representatives on the invitation of the US and Saudi Arabia. He indicated that the AU would not support a process that excludes certain participants and treats them unjustly. The African Union Special Envoy to Sudan, Mohamed El Hacen Lebatt, has yet to comment.
