Next steps in Canada-India CEPA negotiations

Suggested Response:

• India is a high-priority trading partner and we will continue to work with the Indian government to ensure our trade relationship reaches its full potential

• Trade negotiations are inherently complex and the outstanding CEPA issues will take time to resolve

• Our Government is committed to diversifying trade to key global markets. This will help create jobs and economic benefits for the middle class and those people working hard to join it

• We will continue to work with the Indian government toward an ambitious deal that provides opportunity for long-term benefits for both parties.

Background:

Canada and India launched negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in November 2010. The tenth round of negotiations took place August 21-23, 2017, in New Delhi, India.
