Canada-Mexico Relations in relation to US President-Elect Donald Trump's announcement of 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods.

Suggested Response:

• Canada respects and values Mexico's friendship and partnership.
• Canada and Mexico have rich cultural connections, deep people-to-people ties, and a strong trade and investment relationship.
• Canada and Mexico, along with the United States, have benefitted from working together towards the achievement of priorities that benefit each party and North America as a whole.
• Recent public remarks from the incoming U.S. administration have been directed at both Canada and Mexico and have created some pressure in the Canada-Mexico relationship.
• Canada does not plan to escalate any public exchanges. Instead, we will continue to work closely with our Mexican partners towards strengthening the most economically competitive continental relationship in the world.
