Issue/Question:

The Prohibiting Cluster Munitions Act - Exemptions for Canadian Forces members

Suggested Response:

• Canada is fully compliant with the Convention on Cluster Munitions. We implement our obligations through the Prohibiting Cluster Munitions Act.

Background:

The Convention allows States Parties to maintain military interoperability with countries that are not party to the Convention. This takes into account the legitimate need of States Parties to continue to cooperate with military allies (in Canada's case, with the US in particular).
