Background:
Canada remains concerned about the growing humanitarian needs in Lebanon. Canada is also concerned with growing basic health needs affecting women and girls, including increased maternal mortality trends and early marriage rates. Since 2016, Canada has contributed over $466 million in humanitarian assistance to Lebanon. This includes over $32 million in gender responsive humanitarian assistance to Lebanon in 2023 and is Lebanon's third largest humanitarian donor. Canada's assistance is providing for basic needs such as food, shelter, water and sanitation, as well as delivering protection services for survivors of sexual and gender based violence (GBV). This funding supports life saving interventions for all crisis affected populations in Lebanon, including women, girls and LGBTQI+ individuals.
