Background:
At the halfway point of the 2030 Agenda, gaps in poverty eradication, gender equality, food security, health and education remain, with only 12% of the SDG targets on track. Canada is committed to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and accelerating progress through the UN Decade of Action, so that no one is left behind. Canada recognizes that advancing gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls is the most effective way to accelerate progress on all of the SDGs. Canada launched Moving Forward Together, Canada's 2030 Agenda National Strategy in February 2021.The Strategy aims to create and foster an enabling environment for whole of society engagement and participation in the SDGs. A Canadian Indicator Framework (CIF) to track progress on the National Strategy and a Federal Implementation Plan were launched in June 2021. Canada presented its first Voluntary National Review (VNR) in July 2018, and its second in July 2023 at the UN High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. These reports reinforce Canada's commitment to implementing the 2030 Agenda both at home and abroad, and outline progress and challenges in advancing the SDGs. Canada's feminist foreign policy, including the Feminist International Assistance Policy; the inclusive approach to trade; and the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security. guide Canada's international implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Together, they aim to strengthen the rules based international system, support lasting peace and security, foster prosperity, and advance human rights. Canada supports the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development as the primary financing framework for implementing the 2030 Agenda, and is committed to reforming and strengthening the international financial architecture to better meet the needs of developing countries.
