Suggested Response:

• On August 22, 2017, the Canadian Coast Guard was notified that F/V SC 170 was sinking and discharging oil while docked at Port McNeil, in the Province of British Columbia.
• The Canadian Coast Guard took measures to minimize oil pollution damage and prevent further pollution, including pumping water ingress from the vessel to stabilize it.
• In the weeks that followed, Canadian Coast Guard worked with the owner to remove the vessel out of the marine environment but subsequently had to take action in October 2017 when it became evident that the owner had not attended to the vessel.
• The vessel was removed from the marine environment, the owner was informed, and subsequently, the necessary steps were undertaken to address the threat of pollution posed by the unseaworthy vessel.
