Question Period Note: Health and Safety – Atlantic Canada

• The health and safety of all Canadians remains our number one priority.
• Provinces are working with local groups to ensure health and safety protocols are in place for those working in the fishery and processing plants.
• After extensive consultations with harvesters, member associations, processors, indigenous groups, and others, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans has delayed some fisheries across Atlantic Canada and is currently addressing other requests. Delays allow time for industry to work with provinces to implement necessary health and safety measures.
• We know there is more to do to, and we will continue working to ensure everyone is captured by federal support programs so they are able to make the best choice for themselves and their family.
