Suggested Response:
• The decision to delay a fishery is made with the support of harvesters and processers and after considering a variety of factors, including conservation and protection of stock as well as the health and safety of harvesters.
• Our government is in constant communication with provincial and industry partners to discuss these issues.
• For example, at the request and general support of industry, we delayed the opening of inshore fisheries in NL, and some Lobster and Snow Crab fisheries in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence.
• The health and safety of all Canadians continues to be our top priority, and we will continue to consult harvesters, processors, and industry partners to assess each situation on a case by case basis.
• Our government is ensuring that the decisions we make today support the industry in the short-term, and will allow for a strong recovery in the future.
