Background:
• The 2019-20 Departmental Results Report responds to commitments made in the 2019-20 Departmental Plan.
• Overall, the Department performed well against the plans and targets identified in the 2019-20 Departmental Plan. Progress was made on initiatives that supported achieving the Department’s overall priorities. Approximately 70% of the performance targets for 2019-20 were fully achieved. An additional 14 per cent missed their target by a very small margin. Efforts are underway to improve results for the indicators where targets were not met. Some performance declines were attributed to delays related to COVID-19 mitigation measures late in the fiscal year.
Additional Information:
Department spent 4.5% less in 2019-20 than in 2018-19
sub issue a
• The Department's total actual spending for 2019-20 was $3,136.1 million. This represents a decrease of 4.5% compared to the total actual spending for 2018-19 ($3,282.9 million).
• This decrease is mainly attributed to a decrease in total authorities approved by Parliament and allocated by Treasury Board. The decrease in funding relates to items such as the Canadian Coast Guard icebreakers acquired in 2018-19.
Department spent $569.6 million less than Total Authorities for 2019 20
sub issue b
• The Department's total authorities for 2019-20 were $3,705.6 million. The Department’s actual spending for 2019-20 was $3,136.1 million.
• The difference of $569.6 million between total authorities and actual spending is mainly the result of timeline changes in the completion of projects, which caused funding to be carried forward to future years.
