On December 9, 2021, the Canadian Coast Guard received a report that the EXECUTIONER, an 85-foot Fishing Vessel, was taking on water at the wharf in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The vessel contained approximately 16,000L of diesel fuel.
The Canadian Coast Guard deployed personnel to the site to conduct an initial assessment and worked with the owner to respond appropriately.
The source of the water ingress on the vessel was identified and addressed. The vessel no longer poses a threat of pollution to the marine environment.
Background:
• On December 9, 2021, the Canadian Coast Guard (Coast Guard), Environmental Response received a report that the 85 foot Fishing Vessel “Executioner” was taking on water at a wharf in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
• The vessel contained approximately 16,000L of diesel fuel and had a significant list to starboard at the time of the report.
• The vessel was deemed to be in imminent risk of sinking and additional Coast Guard resources were requested.
• Coast Guard, Environmental Response deployed personnel to site to conduct an initial assessment and deployed containment boom and installed pumps to stabilize the vessel.
• The vessel owner was quickly identified and worked with Coast Guard to ensure an appropriate response.
• The owner has made arrangements to monitor the vessel overnight. The containment boom will remain in place as a precautionary measure until December 10, 2021.
• The source of water ingress on the vessel was identified and addressed, and the vessel no longer poses a threat of pollution.
