Natashquan Harbour

The facilities that are used by the fish harvesters in Natashquan are owned by Transport Canada.

Despite this, Fisheries and Oceans Canada has invested funds to acquire and install equipment for fish harvesters using the harbour.

Officials from my department and from Transport Canada are discussing the possibility of an eventual transfer of the harbour to Fisheries and Oceans Canada, under the Small Craft Harbour program. If that transfer were to occur, my department would be in a position to invest further in the harbour infrastructure so that it can be adapted for fishing activities.

Background:

• Natashquan Harbour is owned by Transport Canada but is used by some fish harvesters from the area.
