Suggested Response:

• The Government of Canada is committed to enforcing environmental and conservation laws and takes its responsibilities very seriously.

• The Government is committed to supporting enforcement personnel, whom are relied upon to tackle non-compliance with environmental and conservation laws, and hold offenders to account.

• The Government is proud of the work Enforcement officers do in conducting inspections, gathering intelligence, and investigating violations to ensure that poachers, polluters and wildlife smugglers are brought to justice.

Background:

Minister of the Environment is responsible for environmental and wildlife enforcement.

• The Minister is also responsible for all of Environment and Climate Change Canada’s (ECCC) laws and regulations. This includes eight acts, 70 regulations, and six habitat protection orders.
• In fiscal year 2018-2019, the department conducted approximately 7,048 enforcement actions, which included 3,628 environment enforcement actions and 3,420 wildlife enforcement actions.
