Social Insurance Number (SIN) program – service standards update
Suggested Response:
• The SIN plays a vital role in supporting service to Canadians across the federal government.
• In fiscal year 2024-25, the SIN Program processed over 2.6 million SIN transactions including the issuance of over 1.3 million first time SINs.
• The government takes service to Canadians very seriously and works hard to uphold high service standards including within the SIN program.
Background:
Introduced in 1964, the Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a nine-digit number used as a file number for a variety of Government of Canada programs and benefits.
EDSC strives to meet all service standards associated with the SIN program and works diligently to identify problems or improvements to support successful service delivery to clients.
