• There are 38 SCS in Canada. Since 2017, they’ve received over 4.4 million visits, attended to over 53,000 overdoses, and made over 424,000 referrals to health and social services [as of October 2023].
• They provide a safe space to consume drugs with clean consumption supplies, access to care and without judgement. Many provide access to drug checking and peer support services that can help people make informed decisions about substances before they are consumed, decide to pursue treatment and access other supports.
• These sites reduce public drug use, the spread of diseases, and the strain on emergency services.
