Suggested Response:
• We are pleased with the progress of the discussions to reach a global resolution related to compensation and long-term reform of First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle.
• As we have said from the beginning, our Government is committed to providing fair, equitable compensation to First Nations children and to implementing significant reform that will prioritize their safety and well-being.
• And to demonstrate that commitment, we have set aside $40 billion to ensure the funds are there for current and future generations.
• We look forward to our further collaboration toward reaching an agreement.
The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal order
• We are pleased with the successful collaboration with the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society and the Assembly of First Nations to address the non-compliance motion.
• More funding will be made available to on-reserve First Nations children and families not served by First Nations child and family services agencies for the delivery of prevention services, to support children and families to stay together.
• This resolution is a step forward in meeting our commitments to First Nations communities, children and families, and we will continue to work in partnership with all parties to this end.
First Nations child and family services litigation
• Our government is committed to providing fair, equitable compensation to First Nations children and to implementing significant reform of the First Nation child and family services system that will prioritize the safety and well-being of First Nations children.
• This is why on October 29, 2021, Canada, the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society, the Assembly of First Nations and other parties agreed to put litigation on hold and under the facilitation of the Honourable Murray Sinclair, work towards a global resolution of all litigation related to the First Nations Child and Family Services Program and Jordan’s Principle.
• That resolution will ensure positive outcomes for First Nations children and families.
