Suggested Response:
• The 2019 International Energy Agency’s World Energy Outlook has told us that the world needs many technologies and fuels to meet the Paris targets.
• Technologies and fuels – like powering cleaner oil sands through hydrogen and carbon capture, and capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to help support net-zero emissions.
• We also need to double down on energy efficiency action:
o with more energy efficiency measures, we can tackle 1/3 of Canada’s emissions reduction targets,
o while saving Canadians more than $45 billion.
• Our approach to energy transformation includes:
o investing more than $2.3 billion in clean technology;
o building a coast-to-coast network of fast-chargers for electric vehicles, as well as street charging and charging in apartment buildings, retail outlets and the workplace; and
o using the $5B Clean Power Fund to deliver affordable, reliable, clean power.
• We are in this transformation with all of our partners - to make it work for all Canadians.
Background:
Transforming Canada’s energy sector is key to meeting our climate targets and growing our economy.
