Suggested Response:
• Canada’s mining industry is a source of well-paid, middle class jobs in Canada’s rural, remote and northern communities. It is also an important source of economic opportunity for Indigenous peoples.
• Our government is committed to growing the economy, creating jobs, protecting the environment and supporting a strong and vibrant mining sector.
• The Ring of Fire region holds significant opportunities, particularly for Indigenous peoples and local communities in Northern Ontario.
• We will continue to support sustainable efforts to develop the Ring of Fire, as well as its surrounding communities.
Background:
The Ring of Fire is a mineral-rich area northeast of Thunder Bay, Ontario, that presents a major economic opportunity and a source of critical minerals. It remains entirely undeveloped mainly due to the lack of infrastructure and opposition from a number of local Indigenous communities.
