Suggested Response:
• The Government of Canada recognizes the challenges
facing western Canada.
• Canadians in Alberta and Saskatchewan are an essential
part of our great country, and our government is
committed to addressing their concerns and working
hard to bring our nation together.
• To that end, we are:
o committed to the TMX project, which is under
construction;
o supporting Keystone XL, Line 3, and LNG Canada;
o prepared to consider suggestions for improving
federal transfers, including the Fiscal Stabilization
Program; and,
o open to suggestions for implementing the new
review process.
Background:
During the 2019 federal election, no members from the governing party
were elected in Alberta and Saskatchewan. As such, feelings of Western
alienation have become more acute, with some individuals calling for
Western separation, and the establishment of a Western separatist political
party.
