Suggested Response:
• Our government is ensuring that Canada’s people, economy, communities and environment are resilient to the impacts of a changing climate.
• Action on climate adaptation is a shared responsibility and we all have a role to play.
• In Budget 2016, our government provided $158 million for climate change adaptation. This included $35 million over five years for Natural Resources Canada to develop the knowledge, tools and capacity that industry and communities need to adapt to climate change.
• In Budget 2017, the Pan Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change provided NRCan with a further $18 million for the Building Regional Adaptation Capacity and Expertise (BRACE) program. Working with provinces, this program delivers practical, regionally-specific climate knowledge and tools to professionals to adapt to climate change.
Canada’s Climate Change Adaptation Platform:
• Canada’s Climate Change Adaptation Platform, led by NRCan, is a national forum supporting the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change to deliver adaptation actions and build resilience across Canada.
• The Platform fosters collaboration between public and private sector organizations, helps to address knowledge gaps for natural resource sectors and communities, facilitates the exchange of knowledge and tools, and builds capacity to take action against climate change impacts and adaptation.
Background:
Climate change impacts are being felt across Canada and vary widely from region to region. Canadians need to understand the risks and how they can adapt to the impacts on our economy, society and environment in order to ensure that Canada remains resilient in a changing climate.
