Issue/Question:

Access to – and use of – personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, gloves and gowns are essential to the safest possible restart of the natural resources sectors, and other parts of the economy and society.

Suggested Response:

• Access to PPE is one of the key issues facing our industries and other parts of society as we start to reopen the economy as safely as possible.
• The natural resources sectors have stepped up to do their part to support these efforts:
o They are the source of materials such as wood fibre and plastics that make PPE in Canada and abroad.
o They have provided PPE to frontline workers and to those that need it most. For example, Bruce Power provided 1.2 million pieces of PPE to Ontario frontline workers in March and April alone.
• Through the Innovative Solutions Canada program, the government has also helped Canadian innovators develop made-in-Canada PPE solutions, like filtration material for masks and work on biodegradable facemasks.
