• This represents an increase of $31.2 million or 1.5% over 2020-21 Main Estimates.

• The tabling of 2021-22 Main Estimates demonstrates this Government’s commitment to our Portfolio organizations and to Canadian culture and heritage during these challenging times.
Background
• The 1.5% increase is primarily explained by funding for salary increases for the majority of the organizations in the Portfolio.
• Other items of note for the Portfolio organizations are as follows :
o The 2021–22 Main Estimates for Library and Archives Canada reflect an increase of $10.8 M received for a partnership between Library and Archives Canada, Ottawa Public Library and the City of Ottawa for a joint facility project.
o A lower level of funding provided to the National Museums is explained by the end of one-time funding provided for deferred capital projects primarily related to health and safety. Budget 2016 provided $105.9 million over five years to address some of the National Museums’ immediate operating and capital pressures. In 2020-21 the National Museums received $8.1 million for this purpose.
o 2021-22 Main Estimates does not include items from the 2020 Fall Economic Statement. Parliamentary approval of funding for the Canada Council for the Arts to support the planning and presentation of COVID-19-safe events and the arts will be sought in an upcoming 2021-22 Supplementary Estimates exercise.
