Issue/Question:
The UCI Road World Championships is an 8-day event that will attract over 1,000 athletes from over 75 countries as well as more than 5,000 team members, officials, and other guests. The projected economic impact for the province of Quebec will be over $170 million and more than $210 million for Canada.
The event will be led by the organizing committee Mondiaux Montréal 2026 in collaboration with the UCI, Cycling Canada and the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes. Financial assistance will be provided by the Governments of Canada and Quebec, the City of Montréal and Tourisme Montréal.

Background:
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the international governing body for the sport of cycling, recognized by the International Olympic Committee. The UCI administers and promotes the development of the eight disciplines of cycling (road, track, mountain bike, BMX, para-cycling, cyclo-cross, trials and indoor cycling). The UCI Road World Championship is the property of the UCI, with an approximate participation of 1,000 athletes from over 75 countries at the event.
Cycling Canada (CC) is the National Sport Organization responsible for the organization and promotion of cycling in Canada. The mission of CC is to create and sustain an effective system that develops talented Canadian cyclists to achieve Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship medal performances.
The organizing committee is Mondiaux Montréal 2026 led by President and CEO, Mr. Sebastien Arsenault. Montréal Mondiaux 2026 will work with Cycling Canada, the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes (FQSC) and the UCI to deliver the event.
The projected economic impact for the province of Québec will be over $170 million and more than $210 million for Canada. The study was conducted by Sport Tourism Canada using the MEETS 2.0 model.
The International Single Sport Events (ISSE) component of Sport Canada’s Hosting Program is providing $9.8 million to support the event. The Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec is also providing $3.2 million in financial support.
