Issue/Question:
To address various threats to sport integrity, the Government of Canda continues to promote sport integrity and the values of fair play in Canadian sport.
Suggested Response:
The Government of Canada is committed to promoting an equitable sport system that prevents and addresses threats to sport integrity.
To support this commitment, we are developing a Sport Integrity Framework for Canada, which will consolidate all sport integrity policies.
Our Government also established an International Ministerial Workgroup on Integrity in Sport to share international best practices and lessons learned which met for the first time in Paris ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games.
Background:
Sport integrity encompasses a broad range of policies and procedures that impact participants across sport contexts.
In December 2023, the Minister of Sport and Physical Activity announced two additional initiatives to promote sport integrity:
The development of a Sport Integrity Framework to consolidate all sport integrity policies.
The creation of an International Ministerial Working Group on Integrity in Sport, which met for the first time in Paris on July 26 ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games.
In May 2024, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport announced that it will evolve its organizational mandate to encompass all aspects of sport integrity.
