Issue/Question:

The modernized Official Languages Act includes new provisions to support Quebec's English-speaking communities. In addition, the Action Plan for Official Languages 2023-2028 provides funding for new initiatives targeted at these communities.

Suggested Response:

Our Government recognized in the Modernized Official Languages Act the historical and cultural contributions of Quebec's English-speaking communities, and is taking steps to address their specific needs and to support their vitality.

Our Action Plan for Official Languages 2023-2028 includes a targeted investment for Quebec's English-speaking communities of $2.5 million over 5 years for development through arts, heritage and citizen participation, in addition to the $6.8 million in ongoing funding from previous Action Plans.

We will continue to listen to the specific needs and challenges of Quebec's English-speaking communities and to work with their representatives as well as with our Quebec counterparts, in a spirit of "by and for" these communities.
