Francophone Immigration in French-speaking minority communities
Suggested Response:
With the Francophone Immigration Policy, the modernized Official Languages Act, and the Action Plan2023-2028, our government is taking concrete steps to restore and increase the demographic weight of francophone communities outside Quebec.
Background:
The modernized Official Languages Act sets out Canada’s obligation to have a Francophone immigration policy with objectives, targets, and indicators, as well as a statement that the federal government recognizes the importance of francophone immigration in enhancing the vitality of French linguistic minority communities, including by restoring and increasing their demographic weight.
