Funding announced toward Toronto’s Blackhurst Cultural Centre

Suggested Response:

The Government of Canada is proud to support this Black-led cultural organization create space in an historically Black neighbourhood in Toronto.

Background:

Blackhurst Cultural Centre (formerly known as A Different Booklist Cultural Centre) is the culmination of 25 years of an independent bookstore (A Different Booklist) becoming a meeting place and a space Black artistic expression. This meeting place developed into the not-for-profit Blackhurst Cultural Centre (in 2015) and through the generous contributions and donations of community members – a concrete sign of the need and support for such a centre - was able to expand and develop innovative programming which responds to community needs and interests.
