Federal Support for Journalistic Content

Suggested Response:

Our government has renewed its commitment towards a strong and vibrant democracy by investing an additional $58.8 million to extend the Local Journalism Initiative for three years.

Background:

The Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) supports the creation of original civic journalism that covers the diverse needs of Canada's underserved communities, and it has resulted in the hiring, or maintaining levels, in employment of 413 journalists in 2022-23. • The Canada Periodical Fund (CPF) provides financial assistance to Canadian magazines, non-daily newspapers and digital periodicals to enable them to overcome market disadvantages and continue to provide Canadian readers with the content they choose to read.
