Suggested Response:

  • Our government is committed to finishing the fight against COVID-19, making life more affordable for Canadians, and ensuring our economic recovery leaves no one behind.
  • PrairiesCan received over $360 million in Budget 2021 for targeted pandemic recovery programs that support businesses and communities, generate economic growth, and create jobs people can count on.
  • Through Supplementary Estimates C, PrairiesCan is receiving a net increase of $62 million in funding for this fiscal year with $51 million earmarked for pandemic recovery measures.
  • PrairiesCan is well-positioned to meet the current needs of businesses and communities in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba for these programs.

Background:

Regarding grants and contributions funding for Budget 21 pandemic recovery programs, Supplemementary Estimates C will provide PrairiesCan with over $47 million ($47,083,232). By comparison, other regional development agencies will receive the following: ACOA - $24.3 mllion, CEDQ - $23 million, FedDev - $0, FedNor - $0, CanNor - $4.3 million, PacifiCan - $0.

If pressed on pandemic support for the Prairies * These programs include:
* the Tourism Relief Fund;
* the Jobs and Growth Fund;
* the Canada Community Revitalization Fund;
* Major Festivals and Events Support Initiative; and
* the Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative.
* Since the start of the pandemic, PrairiesCan was there, delivering $450 million in relief funding to more than 6,800 businesses to maintain jobs through the worst of times.
* Together, these investments and other actions are providing certainty to thousands of businesses across the Prairies, and preserving the well-being of families and their communities.
