Issue/Question:

What is Shared Services Canada’s (SSC) status on the Government of Canada’s 5% Indigenous procurement target?

Suggested Response:

  • As part of reconciliation with Indigenous groups, the Government of Canada has established a new minimum mandatory target to award at least 5% of federal contracts to businesses managed and owned by Indigenous Peoples, which SSC is committed to meet
    • SSC exceeded the 5% Indigenous procurement target in fiscal year 2021-22 with a total value of 6.3% and a volume of 7.8% of SSC-funded contracts awarded to Indigenous businesses
    • SSC is on track to meet and exceed the 5% Indigenous procurement commitment in fiscal year 2022-23
    • SSC is engaging with the industry in order to identify further opportunities for indigenous business to participate in SSC lead procurements

If pressed on examples of Indigenous procurement at SSC:

  • Examples of Indigenous procurement at SSC include professional services, such as IT strategic design, planning, and Oracle database administrators, as well as workplace technology devices such as tablets, laptops, desktops, ruggedized tablets and engineered workstations

Background:

The Procurement Strategy for Indigenous Business (PSIB) is the Government of Canada's policy to support Indigenous businesses with procurement opportunities.
